Renee @It’sBookTalk began this Throwback Thursday meme as a way to share some of our old favorites as well as sharing books that we’re FINALLY getting around to reading that were published over a year ago. I’ve wanted to join this meme for a long time and I thought it would be a great idea because it forces me to read books from the TBR and not only new releases. And, of course, I can also include some old favorites!
Don Winslow is coming to Barcelona next week, so I wanted to read The Cartel, the sequel to The Power of the Dog, which I loved last year. He’s also the author of The Force. I think all three will become films in the future.
If you’ve read The Power of the Dog, you know what to expect from The Cartel. Fast-paced action, and Art Keller trying to win the war of drugs… I love Art Keller. He’s an unconventional hero who’s obsessed with his work and will never stop chasing the bad guys. No matter what he has to do. I got to know him in the first book, and he hasn’t changed a bit. 30 years have passed, but he’s still relentless.
I loved The Cartel, and I really like Winslow’s writing (he’s direct and straight-forward, you’re not allowed to get bored) but I think I loved The Power of the Dog a tiiiiiny bit more. It spanned more years and it had more of an “epic” feeling. However, the last 100 pages of this book were simply unputdownable and I absolutely loved the ending *gasps*. Not a saga for everyone, but if you think you’d enjoy it and you love Narcos, don’t miss this author!
