Review: Between You And Me by Lisa Hall

They say every marriage has its secrets. But no one sees what happens behind closed doors. And sometimes those doors should never be opened… Sal and Charlie are married. They love each other. But they aren’t happy. Sal cannot leave, no matter what Charlie does – no matter how much it hurts.

I read this book in one day, almost in one sitting. The writing was simple yet compelling and the story really broke my heart. Between You And Me tells the story of Sal and Charlie, an English couple that has a seemingly perfect relationship… except that they actually don’t. Charlie is cruel, abusive and won’t let Sal do anything. They have a young daughter and Sal stays home to take care of her, although Charlie doesn’t really appreciate it. How long will they last? Will Sal finally do something about it?

I have to say I had read everywhere there was a big twist, so I prepared myself. From the very first page, I kept analyzing everything (because that’s why I do, I love guessing twists!). Well, here I didn’t. At all. I think I even screamed: WTF?! I finished the book and went back to the beginning. Later, in bed, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and analyzing every detail in my head.

The book wasn’t perfect; there were small things that bothered me, like when you were told the exact same event by both main characters (and there weren’t big differences, which would’ve made it better); or certain story-line, which felt a bit unnecessary at the end. But I’m a sucker for twisty stories and jaw-dropping endings and I love being kept awake at night recalling every small detail.

I have a thing for domestic thrillers 🙂 This one is sitting on my kindle shelf! Thanks to your review, it’s been bumped up to the top of my TBR! I should stop bumping books up because I am human and I don’t have the time to read them all, haha! But I loved your review! I start every thriller thinking there’s gonna be a big twist, so I try to pay attention to every detail to work out what’s going to jump at my face sooner or later. The best books are those who manage to keep you guessing until the curtain rises!

I think domestic thrillers might be my favorite genre. I can’t stop reading them! Haha I’m just like you! I’d love it if you could read it and let me know if you guessed it! Can’t wait to read your future review 😀
